All matters arise from small origins. (Cicero)

In 1750 the Silesian master clothier, Johann Christian Paulig, laid the foundation stone for today’s company PAULIG carpets. In 1835 Johann’s son was already working in the weaving mill with the first steam engine. From generation to generation the family remained true to its original metier – up to the moment when Willi Paulig was forced to leave his home country and found a new home in Lower Franconia after World War II. Willi’s oldest son Wilfried Paulig took over the management in 1974, after he and his three siblings inherited the company. There were already 200 employees working for the company in Marktbreit.

In 1995 Wilfried’s son Thomas took charge of the company and developed it into an international think tank in carpet manufacturing. Thomas widened the product range by taking over HARO TEPPICHE (2003) and MAKALU DESIGN (2006) with hand knotted products from Nepal and hand tufted carpets.

In spring 2004, Christian Paulig, the younger brother of Thomas, became a member of the management board and fellow partner in the company. And in November 2004 PAULIG carpets moved into its new corporate building in Schwarzach together with 40 employees. In 2005 the Paulig carpet business celebrated its 60th anniversary and was happy in view of the company’s development into the international market leader for hand woven carpets.
